The MKT is the footprint for Lincoln’s future designs and has taken the Ford Flex to a whole new styling direction. The MKT could be the replacement for the Navigator and has enough creature features to make you enjoy your driving experience.

Comfort, unique sheet metal, elegance and luxury are some of the many of the characteristics that separate the MKT from the Flex.

Driving Experience

My MKT was equipped with the EcoBoost V6, which accelerates like a V8 and handled just like a sports car.

The MKT’s road handling is superior and has a stiffer suspension both front and rear.  The massive 255/45/R20 Goodyear radial with chrome 20-inch alloys firmly holds the road and makes the driving experience enjoyable.

The steering is quick and responsive to any road condition. The brakes were firm and responsive without being too touchy when stopping suddenly.

The vehicle is too large for today’s environment, but if you need a vehicle that can seat 7 adults, this may be the vehicle of choice for a large family.

The MKT came equipped with adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning system and Park assist, which is great for those of us who forgot how to parallel park in the city.

Safety

The Personal Safety System includes dual-stage front seat airbags, front safety belt pretensioners and energy-management retractors, front safety belt usage sensors, driver seat position sensor and crash severity sensor. Always wear your safety belt and secure children in the rear seat.

The Front-Passenger Sensing System can detect whether or not a passenger is sitting in the front seat position and uses the information to determine how and when the dual stage airbag will deploy.

Front seat-mounted side-impact airbags are a standard safety feature on the Lincoln MKT.

The SOS Post Crash Alert System activates horn and emergency flashers in the event of an airbag or pretensioner activation. After the system is deployed, you may deactivate it, using your key fob.

The Lower Anchors and Tether anchors for Children (LATCH) for compatible child safety seats placed in the Lincoln MKT. Two latches in the second row outboard seats, and one in the third row seat on the passenger side. Designed for ease of use, these anchors make securing infant and child safety seats quick and convenient.

The Tire Pressure Monitoring System alerts you with a message in your message center and a warning lamp when any of your tires falls below the recommended pressure excluding the spare tire.

The SecuriLock® Passive Anti-Theft System is designed to help prevent the engine from being started unless the proper electronically coded key fob is used. A flashing light indicates the system is armed.

The 2010 Lincoln MKT is the only vehicle in its class with Roll Stability Control. Advance Trac® with Roll Stability Control helps you stay in control during inclement weather conditions. *Luxury Large Crossover.

The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) helps ensure you’ll have more confident stopping power in hard braking situations.

Under the Hood

The twin turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 displaces 355 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque from 1,500 RPM all the way to 5,250 RPM, which is capable of accelerating the MKT in any situation. When I drove the EcoBoost V6, I averaged 16 MPG in the city and 22 MPG on the highway. This type of mileage is acceptable for a large vehicle, but not great gas mileage. When accelerating the new EcoBoost, it gives you the sense of confidence to pass any vehicle on the road.

Inside

The inside of the MKT has a long list of luxury touches like high quality leather, blond wood, panoramic moon roof, leather-wrapped steering wheel large easy to read white-on-black gauges, large impressive armrests at the door and the center console.

The THX audio system is excellent and adds a special touch to make your driving experience enjoyable.

The MKT comes standard with Sync, the Microsoft-developed connection technology for MP3 players and cell phones that still are superior to any of its competitors.

The navigation system has the Sirius Travel Link feature, which integrates traffic and weather data, fuel prices, movie schedules, and sports scores. The navigation system’s performance was good, and I especially liked the traffic jam warnings where the system will find detours.

Another high tech feature was the collision warning system. Making use of the adaptive cruise control’s radar, the system looks at the Lincoln’s speed versus any car or big object ahead, flashing a red warning light across the windshield if the Lincoln is closing too fast.

Cargo capacity with all rows upright is 17.9 cubic feet, 75.9 when the second and third row seats are stowed.

Outside

Some of the highlights of the MKT that differentiate its styling from the Ford Flex are the split waterfall grille to its unique rear end treatment.

The MKT styling is far superior to the Flex and does not have a boxy shape.

Summary

Ford has come with their answer to the mini van with the 2010 Lincoln MKT, which is a very competent luxury CUV that stands up to the competition! So if you are in need of a large family people hauler and need luxury to boot then before you make your next vehicle purchase go for a test drive in the Lincoln MKT!
